These boots are made for line workers, or power line technicians, as they’re also referred to. So, yeah going into this, I understand that the CA924 is not for everybody.
And for a large part of use, you’re probably never going to try a pair of these on. You’ve probably always seen these in your local boot shop and been like, that’s a really tall boot!
But you’ve never tried a pair on. So, if I can encourage you just to try a pair on, just to see what this Vibram sole feels like, just to see what it’s like to have that much leather wrapped around your ankle, go for it. You’re going to be really surprised.

So, some of the nice parts about the CA924 is the double leather toe, and it has an extra piece of leather right on this side of the foot.
Now, since we’re talking about lineman’s boot, we know that the guy who’s going to buy this boot is going to have to put on gaffs. Because he’s going to be a telecommunications worker, he’s going to be an electrical worker.
And more than likely he’s not going to have the luxury of working in the inner city somewhere where everything can be hit with a bucket truck.
He’s probably out in a rural area where he still has to climb the poles. And that’s why we are having all this leather to cushion you against the gaffs, to relieve a little bit of that pressure really comes in handy.
Heavy Duty Steel Right and Left Linesman Shank
The toe and extra piece of leather are mixed with a special lineman shank. The shank is separated between the left foot in the right foot.
So, there’s a little bit of an arc in there to make it more comfortable when you have to lock in and put all of your weight into the middle section of the boot.

These high-quality, pole climbing, 16-inch leather boots are made in American, and it shows. This is one of those older styles from Carolina that they’ve been making for a really long time. And they’ve got this pattern down.
The leather that they used is beautiful black oil tanned leather. It is perfect all the way through.
From the vamp of the boot to all the way up, there is not a defect in this leather whatsoever. The consistency is out of this world when you think about how long of a piece of leather this is.
Now, the way it’s finished off, the collar is just a regular fold-over collar. Because once you get this high, the top section is probably going to keel over a little bit, make it a little bit more comfortable around your calf.
Vibram® Austin One-Piece Rubber Outsole
Now, the sole that Carolina uses is the Vibram® Austin One-Piece Rubber Outsole. It is an aggressive type pattern.
It’s not super aggressive like you would find on a logger or something like that, but the rubber that is used by Vibram for this sole is so sticky. It is like glue on almost every single outdoor type surface.
Leather Welted Construction
The boot is a welted construction. So, what that means is that if you should wear the sole out, you can chop this sole off and put a new one on if your upper is still in really good shape.
Hardware
Eyelets and laces are exceptional. The brass eyelets, the brass speed laces, everything here is really nice. Now the CA924 is not a waterproof boot. But that shouldn’t discourage you in any way.
Leather that’s this nice can be treated with mink oil, can be treated with boot oil and is going to repel at least 95% of the water that it will come in contact with.
Now, the CA924 does have a little brother, and that’s the CA905. The 905 is pretty much the exact same boot just a little bit shorter. I’ve made an entire article for that, click on the link to see the Carolina CA905 Review.
Size
Now, the beautiful part about all these Carolina lineman’s boots is that once you find your size, once you know what fits, if this is a part of your toolbox, if this is a boot that you have to wear in order to make a living with, once you find that size and that width, it’s always going to be the same.
The consistency from Carolina is amazing when it comes to these boots. Every 12 regular fits just like every other 12 regulars.
Now the sizing scale on this in the regular widths goes from 5 to 14, and into y models, it goes from 6 and 1/2 to 13. I did mention that it’s made in America right? And there’s a Union-made label on the top.
